Cyberpunk 2077 mega-relevant and Über-timely review

Foreword

Hello to all the inhabitants of stopgame! I want to share with you my test of the pen. I have never written reviews, articles, etc. before. I count on your feedback of any kind, it will be very useful to me. Happy reading!

Introduction

Greetings to all lovers of long-term construction from the world of the gaming industry. 2020 will be remembered for a sufficient number of problems in all spheres of life, including game development. Despite this, we got a number of really interesting projects. TLoU 2, Doom Eternal, Ghost of Tsushima - these and some other games satisfied our gaming hunger a little. But we all know perfectly well what really was the most anticipated event this year. Already it seemed that it would never come and all the waiters for the world would be left to sit at a broken trough. But now, after 8 years of waiting and a series of painful transfers, Cyberpunk 2077 ended up on hard drives and solid state drives. After completing the game completely several times, I will share my vision of the creation of Polish masters. Sit back, we're getting started.

Bugs and optimizations

Let's immediately pay attention to the elephant in the room. A healthy one, with giant ears and an obscene trunk. Of course, I'm talking about the optimization and the technical state of the game at the time of release. If I were asked to describe how launchable Cyberpunk 2077 was, I would say that it is an exe that launches by double clicking on itself. The number of bugs hit the seats of even release-hardened zero gamers. Millions of players were accompanied by improperly loading lodes, levitating in npc T-poses and a bunch of errors of different levels of irritability. And okay, if the jambs were only visual. But no - the critical errors for passing were also brought up, but such that those who faced this Polish magic in the first days of the release had to start the game anew. Ironically, I also fell into this joker trap, which caused the 15 hour walkthrough to go to the place that is actively traded on chpok street. And nothing can be said about the state of play on consoles of the outgoing generation, except Press F to Make Refund. In short, Assassin`s Creed Unity with a fatherly smile clapped the brainchild of CDProjekt on the shoulder with the words "Proud".

However, my whole excursion into these rather unpleasant memories was needed only for the historical context, it did not affect my final opinion. Undoubtedly, the garbage technical implementation should not become a trend and one should not turn a blind eye to this. But all this does not negate what is underneath. If the same Unity, in addition to comedy bugs, could not boast of any outstanding aspects, then Cyberpunk definitely has something to offer to those who make their way through the maze of shitty optimization. And the first thing at the end of it is the incomparable Night City.

Night City

In their pre-release materials, the Poles zealously said that the city would become a full-fledged character. We'll talk about his role in the entire narrative of the game a little later, when it comes to the plot and its features. In the meantime, let's discuss the features inherent in this rather unusual hero.

Night City attracts all the player's attention from the first seconds. Colorful signs with acid neon, huge corporate skyscrapers, life boiling at every corner make you literally fall in love with this stone (or rather glass) jungle. How much effort and work and level artists, environmental artists and designers have put into this city is worthy of stormy and continuous applause. An infinite number of details keep the immersion at its maximum at all times. Even the local wastelands have an unusual charm and are constantly beckoning to break free from the suffocating city streets. The elaboration of the style and aesthetics of cyberpunk deserves special attention. I wouldn't be surprised if, out of 8 years of development, the lion's share was spent on creating clothes, cars, augmentations and other aspects that create such a believable atmosphere of 2077. It is truly one of the best, if not the best, virtual cities in recent years.

But despite all my praises of Night City, one very important thing must not be overlooked. The entire world of Cyberpunk 2077 is a decoration. Incredibly elaborate and beautiful, but still the decoration. There is no deep simulation here at all. All random meetings and scenes that you see in the city exist only in a single copy, and when you come to the same place after a while, you will see the same woman covering her husband with a three-story mat or a man arguing about whether intercourse is considered with an inflatable doll cheating. Living in reality, where there is Rockstar with their god-like open worlds that can literally live without the participation of the player, it is at least strange to observe this in cyberpunk. And given the level of expectations that the game has set with its promotional materials, it's also a shame. But as one great sportsman said, your expectations are your problems. And in the case of cyberpunk, this expression is especially true, because the number of dreams that players have built for themselves regarding this project is quite appropriate to compare with the legendary robbery of the Korovans.

We work with what we have on hand. And yet, why haven't the Poles deceived us? As it seems to me, with the gameplay.
