DIY headboard: wooden structure and soft backs

It's no secret that the bed is the "center of gravity" in the bedroom. They sleep on it, just relax, watch TV or read before going to bed. It is the bed that determines the style of the room; the headboard, which is the main decorative element of the room, plays an important role in this item. What if he needs such an element? Buying furniture with a back is the easiest way out. However, many owners do not like it for several reasons, one of them is the standard, monotony of products, the other is the high price. Therefore, more and more people are choosing a different method: they decide to make a headboard with their own hands. The idea is quite logical: such a design will be unique, and the owners will be able to create exactly what will look perfect in a particular interior. There are several materials and manufacturing options.

Headboard selection features

There are only two main criteria when choosing a model: the appearance of the element and its convenience. However, one cannot ignore other important factors.

Soft and hard back

For those owners who spend a lot of time watching TV or reading, the best option would be a soft design. And in this case, the practicality of the upholstery material comes to the fore. Since they will often lean on the back, it is better to buy a fabric, the care of which will be as simple as possible. For example, natural or artificial leather - materials that do not require additional procedures.

A rigid headboard is chosen by those for whom design is more important than functionality and comfort. For example, a wrought-iron headboard or plank construction will not be a convenient "supply" for pillows and a head. but this option gives more opportunities to experiment with the shape of the back. Potential materials for its creation are wood, metal or plastic panels.

Variety of constructions

There are only two types of headboards: inclined and vertical. The first design will provide maximum convenience, since it will be very comfortable to lean on it while reading and watching TV. Its downside is the loss of extra space by the room, since the inclined back will make the bed longer and the room smaller. The vertical panel has no such drawback. It is generally used more often.

The choice of the type of construction is often influenced by the size of the room. If it is not possible to install bedside tables in the bedroom, then choose a functional model - a wide headboard equipped with shelves. A spacious room with high ceilings allows for another option - a large classic design, without additions.

Backrest Materials

For the assembly of frames, either wood or wood-based panels are traditionally used. However, they are not the only candidates. A fairly wide range of materials are suitable for creating a headboard.

  • Plastic. These panels can be a solution for laconic styles.
  • Metal. In this case, we are talking about forged products that decorate classic interiors.
  • Laminate. This material is often used to trim the wall behind the bed, but sometimes it is also used to create a soft back.
