What processes with the participation of electricity can occur in the garage

A garage is a multifunctional room in which various processes using electrical energy can take place. And how many power supply lines should be in the garage directly depends on this, and, therefore, the "filling" of the electrical panel should also be ready to "serve" all these processes.

  • Firstly, the garage must have good general lighting, and it is desirable that it be divided into groups. For example, the top and the side or the front and back, etc. This is, first of all, very convenient, and even in case of any possible troubles, there will be a chance not to be in complete garage darkness.
  • Secondly, in any garage there are workplaces where various equipment can be permanently installed: a tool sharpening machine, a drilling machine, a compressor and others. Of course, these places should have local lighting, which should be switched on as needed right at the workplace. It should be noted that in the inspection pit, the lighting should not be 220 V, but 36, 24 or 12 V. These are the requirements.
  • Thirdly, all workplaces must be supplied with power for stationary equipment and mounted sockets for connecting another tool: electric drill, hammer drill, battery charger, soldering iron, etc. Moreover, there should be enough sockets, because according to the rules of life "there are never too many of them." It is clear that the sockets should not be ordinary, but with a degree of protection of at least IP44, but better than IP55. And, by the way, neither sockets nor 220 V switches should be placed in the inspection pit, they should only be outside.
  • Fourthly, car maintenance and repairs are often associated with work in places where general and local lighting will not help, for example, under the hood or below - in the inspection pit. Therefore, the garage should be provided with sockets for connecting carry lamps, but not for 220 V, but for 24, 36 V or (which is better) for 12 V. The outlet should not be one, there should be several of them located in convenient places. Moreover, they must be signed and have a different plug connection incompatible with the 220 V 50 Hz network. We will consider this issue in more detail below.
  • Fifthly, the garage is very often combined with a cellar for injuring homework. Its lighting should only be low-voltage and this must be taken into account when planning the electrical panel.
  • Finally, the garage should have good ventilation, both natural and desirable and forced. Of course, the power supply to it must come from the panel with a separate line. Some owners may install electric heaters or air conditioners for comfort. Accordingly, this will also affect the "stuffing" of the switchboard.
