How to make a wicker fence out of an ordinary board to the envy of neighbors

The Homius editorial staff continues the series of publications with the hashtag #BestHome for those who appreciate every minute and are not used to wasting time. The lucky ones who have suburban areas certainly do not have to be bored in self-isolation. There is always something to lay hands on. For example, now is the time to start planting and arranging the site. You can do paving, build a smart greenhouse, and decorate your garden. And if there is no fence on your site yet or it requires replacement, then it is quite possible to solve this issue as well. Fences can be very different - from a simple and cheap wall to solid brick structures. You can choose the option that suits your design and budget, including wood construction. We invite you to familiarize yourself with the experience of one of the authors of the FORUMHOUSE YouTube channel Inna Krylova. A mother of many children built a gorgeous wicker fence with her own hands without a single nail. If she succeeded, then you certainly can.

What you need for a wicker fence

So, you will be surprised, but for such a wooden fence you really do not need any fasteners: no nails, no screws. And it is assembled without tools, which is also very important.

You only need boards - the same, 3 meters long. The quantity is about 18 pieces per one section of the fence 270 cm long. The optimal thickness of the board is 2 cm, the width is 10. Such boards bend easily, which is important for wickerwork.

In addition, you will need posts for posts - metal or wood, as well as wood stain or paint for wood processing. You can take planed boards, but if you want to save money, you can process them yourself.

Some nuances of preparing the construction of a wicker fence

The wicker fence has its own nuances in construction and operation, things to consider.

Even if Inna had cemented the pillars, nothing would have changed: the heaving soil would push them out together with the cement filling. And in the usual tucked-up state, it is possible to return them to their place with a few blows of a sledgehammer or the butt of an ax.

Since the braid is not fixed on the pole in any way, returning the racks to their place and then pushing them out of the ground does not affect the integrity of the fence. Moreover, Inna admitted that initially she fixed the top and bottom boards with metal pins, which were simply ripped out due to the natural displacement process.

PHOTO: Another nuance - do not rush to cut the tops of the racks to the height of the fence after assembly: time will pass, and you will see at what height the displacement occurs, only then you should make a decision

PHOTO: Fence can also be made from raw board, but then you will spend a lot more paint or stain, so it is better to spend time sanding

PHOTO: With an electric plane or grinder, this work will not take you much time
