Types of alambik

Portuguese alambic is one of the most ancient inventions of mankind for the distillation of liquids. As a rule, it is made from copper by hand using the forging method. Each Portuguese master tries to make his work exclusive, applying his own ornaments, oriental patterns to the walls of the cube, by which the creator of the masterpiece is easily identified. By and large, the Portuguese alambic is so called because it is made in Portugal. Moreover, it can be of different types and different design features.

Charente alambique is a moonshine from France, Charente province. With its help, they make the primary distillation of wine into a product with a strength of 30 °, and then a secondary distillation into raw cognac alcohol of 70 ° strength. It is corked in oak barrels for a period of 3 to 200 years to get the wonderful Hennessy cognac, known all over the world. Design features that distinguish the device.

It is interesting that in Russia in the 17th century such a moonshine was made, which is like two drops of water similar to the Charente Alabamik, only the curved tube "swan's neck" was called "goose" in it.

Whiskey alambik is a high-class professional apparatus for distillation and production of whiskey, as well as other high-grade noble drinks with a strength of up to 70 °. Like all previously described alambics, the whiskey is made of forged copper, which absorbs harmful substances and has a high thermal conductivity, is equipped with a thermometer and a safety valve. Another difference between it and other models is the shape of the cap (helmet) in the form of a bulb that rises high vertically.

Alambik with a column is intended for distillation of aromatic alcohol. Various organic substances are loaded into the column, which give their ethers to the distilled product. In addition, the same device can be used to obtain cosmetic hydrolates or essential oils.

Alkitara is a distillation apparatus, a type of alambic, designed for distilling noble alcohol, flavored and improved, as well as aromatic components of various cosmetics. It would seem that everything is the same, but there is a significant difference - the alcitara has a vertical arrangement of nodes, which in turn are connected using silver-based solders with a small (0.05%) lead content. With the help of the alcitar apparatus, one can obtain a product much stronger (up to 60 °) from one distillation than with ordinary alambic. Alkitara works with a capacity of approximately 3 liters per hour.

What is better alambic or moonshine still?

The modern market is rich in a variety of models of moonshine still for home use. But the ancient invention of Arab alchemists - alambik - is slightly less popular among connoisseurs of strong home drinks.

There are a lot of home brew recipes for moonshine, and ethyl alcohol can also be obtained by distilling wine or beer.
