Today, 36 lighthouses are operating in the unoccupied territory of Ukraine, 18 were in the occupied Crimea.
The Striped Lighthouse is located on the territory of the seaport in the city of Chornomorsk (formerly Illichivsk).
Vorontsov lighthouse is called the maritime calling card of Odessa. This is the first lighthouse in Odessa, built in 1827, the height is 26 meters, you can climb to the top of the lighthouse by overcoming 135 steps of a spiral staircase. It was named after Prince Mikhail Vorontsov, the Governor-General, who completed the construction of the lighthouse at Cape Bolshoy Fontana.
Today it is already obvious that the first attempts of the Russian Federation to occupy Crimea were made back in 2006. Then the units of the Russian Black Sea Fleet made an attempt to seize the coastal lighthouse in Yalta. The Ministry of Transport and Communications of Ukraine issued a statement then that “All Ukrainian navigation and hydrographic facilities to ensure the safety of navigation, including the hydrotechnical structure“ Mayak Yaltinsky ”are managed by the“ State Hydrographic Service ”, which is part of the structure of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Ukraine. >
The Ministry emphasized that all objects of navigation and hydrographic support on the sea coast, including the lighthouse of the Yalta Sea Trade Port, are the property of Ukraine.
The lighthouse is operating normally, there are no comments regarding the safety of navigation. This conclusion was made based on the results of the planned inventory of the Yalta Sea Trade Port.
And later in 2014, during the aggression against Ukraine in Crimea, the "little green men" captured the coastal lighthouses located on the Black Sea coast among the priority objects.
Lighthouses appeared as soon as there was a need to improve safe navigation. In “land” language, lighthouses are a means of navigational equipment of the sea and river coast in the form of a capital structure of a tower type, designed to enable a ship to determine a certain place on a geographical map. The main requirement for beacons - the ability to detect them and unmistakably identify them in any weather and at any time of the day using both visual observation and radar and sound detection equipment.
Today there are 36 lighthouses operating in the unoccupied territory of Ukraine, 18 were in the occupied Crimea. Marines are installed in the Nikolaev, Odessa, Kherson, Zaporozhye regions and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
The activities of the lighthouses are managed by the state institution "State Hydrography" of the State Service of Maritime and River Transport of Ukraine. Structurally, the lighthouses of Ukraine are connected with the Federal State Institution "Nikolaevsky District of the State Hydrography", the Federal State Institution "Odessa District of the State Hydrography", the Federal State Institution "Kerch District of the State Hydrographic Service", and the Sevastopol branch of the State Hydrography named after L. I. Mitin.
