Children from an early age understand what money is and why there are ATMs, they know how to create savings by putting coins in a piggy bank, and are not surprised when they hear the word "credit card". To streamline financial knowledge and make it deeper, Barnaul teachers have created special games, which are now being tested in several preschool institutions of the city.
A set of such games for financial literacy cannot be bought - they are issued to institutions that send five or more people to advanced training courses under the program "Content and Methods of Financial Education of Preschool Children". Classes of the next course are planned to start on the first day of spring. Photo courtesy of kindergarten number 231
Money is an integral part of life, and hence the games of children who copy adults in everything. In my childhood, we paid for some sand cakes with imaginary rubles made of lilac leaves or rectangular pieces of paper crookedly cut out of a newspaper stolen from my grandmother.
The equipment in today's fantasy shops that today's toddlers play is also very different. They have at their disposal all kinds of scales, mini-versions of grocery baskets and carts, cash registers, plastic fruits and vegetables. What cannot be purchased can be done in kindergartens with their own hands.
- We have always had such a role-playing game, just in modern realities it acquires new attributes, - says the head of kindergarten № 231 Natalya Malysheva. - For example, now children know that money is kept on bank cards, which means that we create an ATM ourselves, we are all creative people.
By the way, to acquaint children with financial concepts here began long before the arrival of games, studying the experience of colleagues from other regions, looking for methods on the Internet. Having learned that the Altai Institute for the Development of Education is inviting to advanced training courses under the new program, a whole team of teachers from the institution set out for new knowledge.
- If earlier we introduced new concepts in fragments, now we approach the process more consciously and by the end of the academic year we plan to develop a full-fledged program, continues Natalya Anatolyevna. - At first, some of our employees doubted: is it too early to talk about this topic, will the children be interested? When we tried it, we understood - it will be. After all, we do not conduct lessons, as in school, but give material in an accessible form, taking into account age characteristics, using generally accepted pedagogical principles.
The new financial literacy games are didactic, educational, visually reminiscent of a lotto - they have a playing field and cards with pictures in their arsenal, since kindergarteners cannot read yet.
- There are five such games in total. One, for example, concerns income and expenses, - Natalya Malysheva concretizes. - For example, I tell you: if we turn off the lights on time, we can save electricity, because parents pay for it, they will spend less money, which means they can buy another toy.
Teachers, showing cards, invite children to reason for themselves, and also give examples from their own lives so that little ones can transfer them to their family.
- I say: kindergarten for your mother is an expense, because you need to pay a fee, but for me - income, since I get a salary here, - Natalya Anatolyevna gives an example. - Children quickly find an analogy. For example, one girl said that buying cakes in a store, they spend money, and when her mother bakes them at home for sale, they earn. In fact, these are elementary knowledge and concepts, not specific.
