Most anglers only know how to hook a boilie, hook your catch and take the fish ashore, without thinking about what it is made of and why its effectiveness is so great. Let's try to understand why this particular bait is so interesting for carp and its “relatives”.
The word "boil" in translation from English means "to cook" and implies a certain heat treatment of the bait at the manufacturing stage. This is a ball-shaped bait with a diameter of 0.5 to 3 cm, consisting of a boiled, dried or compressed mixture based on various types of flour, including fish or bone.
The composition of boilies may include milled cereals, bran, sunflower meal, gluing components such as, for example, starch, casein, gelatin, as well as various attractants (flavorings).
The most important point for using this type of bait is the requirements for the hook, which is the basis for installation. Hooks with a short shank made of thick, strong wire are suitable for installation. The sting of the hook is used straight, without folds. The element for connecting the hook to the line can be either a ring or a spatula. You can attach the hook to the fishing line using any known method. It is this kind of hook design that is determined by the essence of the boilie installation.
After all, the bait in this situation is not directly attached to the hook, but located at a distance from it. But the suction of profit by eating fish implies synchronous suction of the hook. In such a situation, the shorter the hook, the faster it will get into the fish's mouth, and the straighter and sharper the sting, the more reliably it will pierce the mouth and spot the fish.
Important! The hook for boilies is characterized by the amount of bend depending on the size of the fish to be caught. What is the largest planned trophy, the larger the hook size with a relatively small forend to this value.
Special hook kits are available for sale along with accessories for mounting the boilie on the hook. The set includes a hook with a ring strung on it, and a silicone cambric that can be put on the hook end-to-end. The role of these additional elements and the technical steps required when installing with boilies will be discussed in more detail in the next section.
