Care Packages For The Homeless

ht-1

“Be the change you want to see in the world.” This is one of my favourite quotes by Gandhi, and it’s these exact words that I had running through my mind as I packed my backpack with fifteen care packages, ready to hand out to the homeless.

It was a sunny day in London, the streets were buzzing, and as I made my way into the city centre, I just hoped that what I was doing would impact a strangers life in a positive way. Each care package I made up consisted of one water bottle, wet wipes, a pair of socks, tissues, two snack bars, toiletry bag (toothbrush, toothpaste, shaving kit, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant, comb, hair ties, lip balm), sanitary pads, tampons, and the bag itself was a lightweight drawstring bag that could be re used.

I spent my day distributing them throughout the city of London and the reactions I had warmed my heart more than I could have imagined. I met a guy who said he’d take it home for his children because they were struggling as a family, and I’ll never forget the woman who started crying and repeating “thank you, thank you” over and over. I never expected to receive that kind of reaction to be honest, I didn’t think anyone would really engage with me at all.

Giving back has always been a part of who I am. It always has been and it always will be. Today is International Poverty Day and I wanted to share my experience with the world (as to why I had this filmed), and how easy is to give back. I hope this video not only raises awareness, but also inspires others to undertake their own acts of kindness. You never know how a small gesture can change someone’s entire day.
